CURRICULA - doctoral PROGRAMS


INTRODUCTION

The Doctor Degree is presented to students who have accomplished the completion of a minimum of 180 semester credit hours.  Evangelical Theological Seminary's Doctor Degree program has a 40 semester credit hour minimum of study.  A Bachelor Degree and a Master Degree are required and must be from an acceptable seminary, college, or university.  The student may receive earned credits through transfer from a recognized seminary, college, or university to Evangelical Theological Seminary.  Also, credits may be earned toward the Doctor Degree through verifiable ministerial life experience.  A doctoral dissertation is required and receives 10 credit hours.  The Doctor Degree will require approximately three years to five years to complete.  This includes the Doctoral Dissertation.  A 3.0 (B) grade average is mandatory for graduation in the doctoral program.  Evangelical Theological Seminary must receive confirmation of high school diploma, GED, or the equivalent and transcripts verifying the completion of the Bachelor Degree and Master Degree, with all other courses which the student desires to transfer.

The Doctor Degree will include the following: 30 semester credit hours for the required courses, 10 semester credit hours for the Doctoral Dissertation, and an Oral Defense.

DOCTOR OF THEOLOGY

The Doctor of Theology (Th. D.) is made academically available for pastors, staff members, and leaders in other church related ministries who desire an in-depth theological knowledge. Degree requirements include ten courses, the Doctoral Dissertation, and the Oral Defense.

DOCTOR OF MINISTRY   

The Doctor of Ministry (D. Min.) is made academically available to present comprehensive and scholastic information on church related ministries.  This will educationally provide the theological foundation for pastors, missionaries, evangelists, music ministers and other church workers. This degree requires ten courses and does not require the Doctoral Dissertation or the Oral Defense.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY   

The Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Religious Major) is awarded to those who have successfully completed their academic studies in a distinctive religious discipline.  The receiving of this degree demonstrates each student's aspirations for academic achievement in their religious endeavors. The Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D.) relates to studies in the following religious academic disciplines:  Theology, Ministry, Biblical Studies, and Religious Education.  These four disciplines offer the opportunity for students to expand their field of study into various religious categories. Degree requirements include ten courses, the Doctoral Dissertation, and the Oral Defense.

The Doctor of Philosophy student may elect any seven courses which are in their major discipline and the 600 series course list.  The student elective course choices must be approved by the seminary. 

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN CHRISTIAN COUNSELING

The Doctor of Philosophy in Christian Counseling Degree is a specialized academic program with concentrated studies presented by Evangelical Theological Seminary in order to prepare the individual for a specialized religious vocation.
