CURRICULA - master PROGRAMS


introduction

The Master Degree is presented to students who have accomplished the completion of a minimum of 150 semester credit hours.  Evangelical Theological Seminary's Master Degree program has a 38 semester credit hour minimum of study.  A Bachelor Degree is required and must be from an acceptable seminary, college, or university.  The student may receive earned credits through transfer from a recognized seminary, college, or university to Evangelical Theological Seminary.  Also, credits may be earned toward the Master Degree through verifiable ministerial life experience.  A Master Thesis is required and receives 8 credit hours.  The Master Degree will require approximately two years to three years to complete.  The seminary must receive confirmation of high school diploma, GED, or the equivalent and transcripts verifying the completion of the Bachelor Degree, with all other courses which the student desires to transfer.

MASTER OF CHRISTIAN COUNSELING   

The Master of Christian Counseling (M. C. C.) is made academically available for those individuals who eventually will be, or who are now, active participants in the counseling ministry. Degree requirements include ten courses and the Master Thesis.

The Master of Theology (Th. M.) is made academically available for pastors, staff members, and leaders in other church-related ministries who desire in-depth theological knowledge. Degree requirements include ten courses and the Master Thesis.

The Master of Ministry (M. Min.) is made academically available to present comprehensive and scholastic information on church-related ministries.  This will enhance the effectiveness of pastors, missionaries, evangelists, music ministers, and other church workers. Degree requirements include ten courses. There is no Master Thesis required for this degree.

Ed.) is made academically available so that religious educators are prepared to minister in all areas and grades of Christian schools.  This includes assistants, teachers, administrators, and pastors. The Master of Music Degree (M.M.) is made academically available so that  individuals who desire  concentrated  studies  in  the field  of music, such as: Minister of Music, choir director, Director of Music, departmental teachers, etc., can expand their studies into various specialized religious music disciplines. Degree requirements include ten courses and the Master Thesis.

MASTER OF ARTS DEGREE

In order to academically qualify for the Master of Arts Degree (Religious Major), a student must have completed of a minimum of 150 semester credit hours.  The requirement is that 39 of these credits are to be in general education or liberal arts courses such as English, history, sociology, mathematics, science, etc.  These Master of Arts credits can be earned through a number of methods:  (1) completing the academic requirements of Evangelical Theological Seminary, (2) credit for verifiable life experience, (3) credit transfer from approved universities, colleges, and seminaries, which must also include 39 credits being in the general education or liberal arts courses. 

Evangelical Theological Seminary offers the Master of Arts Degree in the following areas of study:

  1. Christian Counseling 

  2. Theology 

  3. Ministry 

  4. Biblical Studies 

  5. Religious Education 

  6. Music

The student will be academically evaluated relative to entrance level into this program and the courses adjusted accordingly. Degree requirements include ten courses and the Master Thesis. 

MASTER OF SCIENCE DEGREE

In order to academically qualify for the Master of Science Degree (Religious Major), a student must have completed of a minimum of 150 semester credit hours.  The requirement is that 19 of these credits are to be in general education or liberal arts courses such as English, history, sociology, mathematics, science, etc.  These Master of Science credits can be earned through a number of methods:  (1) completing the academic requirements of Evangelical Theological Seminary, (2) credit for verifiable life experience, (3) credit transfer from approved universities, colleges, and seminaries, which must also include 19 credits being in the general education or liberal arts courses. Evangelical Theological Seminary offers the Master of Science Degree in the following areas of study:

  4. Biblical Studies 

  5. Religious Education 

  6. Music

The student will be academically evaluated relative to entrance level into this program and the courses adjusted accordingly. Degree requirements include ten courses and the Master Thesis.

MASTER OF DIVINITY

The Master of Divinity Degree (M.  Div.) is offered with regard to professional preparation for pastors, missionaries, evangelists, educators, and other church ministries.  The Master of Divinity Degree requires intensive and dedicated academic studies.  The curriculum may be completed in three years, depending on the student's other responsibilities, but more time is allowed.  It requires the completion of 102 semester credit hours with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (B).  A Bachelor Degree is required and must be from an acceptable seminary, college, or university.  The student may receive earned credits through transfer from a recognized seminary, college, or university to Evangelical Theological Seminary.  Also, credits may be earned toward the Master of Divinity Degree through verifiable ministerial life experience.  A thesis is required and receives 8 semester credit hours.  The seminary must receive confirmation of high school diploma, GED, or the equivalent and transcripts verifying the completion of the Bachelor Degree, with all other courses which the student desires to transfer.
